Lat week was my birthday.
And instead of sharing milestones or highlights, I wanted to share something quieter.
This is a card my Dad sent me when I was in my 20s.
I’d just started doing “well” by most external measures.
Busy. Ambitious. On the way up.
His advice wasn’t about speed or success.
It was about foundations.
“Stay on the ground.
Be careful of success and praise.
Make sure every rung on the ladder is well nailed on –
if not, you’ll slip straight down to the bottom.”
At the time, I read it and moved on.
Years later, I understand it.
Careers aren’t built by big moments.
They’re built by what holds when no one’s watching.
Today, I’m grateful for:
• perspective over applause
• foundations over shortcuts
• peace of mind over noise
And for a dad who saw further ahead than I could.
If you could send one line of advice to your younger self –
what would it be?
Advice from my Father.
