Course Aim
The overall aim of this course is to enhance the student’s self esteem. Students with high self esteem are more likely to be able to deal with life’s challenges and are able to face their futures with confidence, energy and excitement. By integrating the key course ideas into their lives, students will find it easier to deal more effectively with peer pressure, bullying, negative thoughts etc.
To achieve this, at the end of this module students will have:
1. Sharpened their rapport skills/ their ability to communicate, which will have a dramatic positive effect on all aspects of their lives. Students will learn eight assumptions they can make about human behaviour and many tips based on these assumptions. This will have a positive impact on how they deal with crises in the future.
2. An understanding of how to break through self-imposed obstacles. Looking Ahead and Living Now brings students on the journey towards self awareness. They will explore the major influences in their lives and be shown how to redesign their own personal ‘software’ to help them survive and thrive in the real world. Furthermore they will be inspired to choose differently and more positively in the future
3. Set goals for all aspects of their lives in the future.In essence they will have taken the first step in designing the lives they desire. This is their first written commitment. In the goals segment, they will explore their values and interests, and the reasons why they want to achieve their goals. They will understand the importance of balance in their lives, clarity in their desires, and the importance of breaking down their dreams into manageable steps. They will also be
motivated to identify their life’s purpose.
Been inspired by examples taken from their own life, which will show they had a winning life strategy in the past. If they have done it before, they can do it again.
Finally, the students’ self-esteem will be boosted by their experiences in the class.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
The teacher will create an Action Learning experience that will honour all learning styles. Presentations by students, exercises, ongoing class discussions, role-play, visualisation exercises and background music will all feature during the class. In all students will complete thirty two exercises during the course.
