Steve Forbes

Entrepreneurial Direction

” We are very comfortable being misunderstood – that is a core competency.”

”Look everytime we do something new, we get criticised. Its fine . The corollorary is you rarely get criticised for acts of ommision, yet the biggest mistakes companies make are what they should have done and failed to do.”

 Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com

………..all great ideas start in a majority of one – Be that one, take that narrow path.

Authentic selling

By admin

“According to a 2005 study by the London School of Economics of the effects of positive and negative work of mouth based in a measurement called the net promoter score, every seven point increase in the surveys word of mouth advocacy score correlated with a 1% sales increase. The survey showed that companies with high positive word of mouth and low negative word of mouth grew four times as fast as companies where the reverse was true. ( reported on the Sunday Times Nov 11.)

So how does a company improve their word of mouth?

- Exceed customers expectations at all contact points with the organisation.

- Think laterally about customer interactions. For example instead of wondering how much you can sell to your customer in the short term, did you ever wonder how you can secure business for them? Improving your clients bottom line will improve yours in the long term.

Experiental marketing – people choose experience.

Add experience to your product offering. Remember in this attention deficit society people will remember experiences but have major difficulties retaining facts.

Authentic selling – Get real or get out!

Work on yourself. Authentic selling is the new and only way to deal with people. Authentic sales people automatically show they care about their client, listen to their needs, deliver more than what was asked for, convert their customers into friends effortlessly and so on. The new marketing environment dictates that you either get real ….or get out.

As a motivational speaker, being authentic means that I totally walk the path of my philosophies. This means setting major goals and taking action. It is not good enough to talk about the topic; you must live it.

ASK!

Don’t just wait for complaints, solicit them now. People with a satisfactorily resolved complaint are more loyal and are likely to spread positive word of mouth.

Enjoy the trip.

Baby entrepreneurs!

By admin

Over the past six weeks in between executing my role as a motivational speaker at various events on Leadership, Motivation or Entrepreneurship, I have had the honour of sharing time with my new born boy Conor.

Watching him in action has reaffirmed in me the wisdom of a child – here are a few of the learning points!

If you want something Ask – Ask specifically! When Conor is hungry, he asks….with great clarity!

See it, feel it, create it.

Individuals are after all inside out rather than outside in. Whatever we input into our subconscious with belief, I believe we can create it in the real world. In the context of our dreams, I am a great advocate of inputting our desired reality into our subconscious; indeed input it in movie format – full colour, surround sound etc.

In the early days I watched what I thought was Conor’s first smiles…..to find out they were a pre-cursor for wind!! Conor was enjoying the outcome, before he achieved his dream – getting rid of the wind in his system!

And finally what about their heightened levels of curiosity?  Conor scans the new weird and wonderful world in which he find himself in forensic detail.

Of course, curiosity and willingness to learn are key qualities if you want to achieve your entrepreneurial or leadership dreams.

Just over six weeks old, I have no doubt that Conor has many more life lessons to teach me!
